Ɖuenɖe is a project of experimental electronic music voiced in Sicilian. It was born as a tribute to my Sicilian roots, steeped in musical and artistic influences absorbed during my life in England and Northern Europe.
My music owes many debts. I like to experiment with sound in every way, including collecting soundscapes with all the means I can find. I have gathered many vocal influences, from jazz to the rhythm of spoken word poetry or the phrasing of Portuguese Fado and of the traditional music of South Central Asia.
Through Ɖuenɖe, I wanted to unearth the Sicilian language and bring it to light within myself to reconnect with my roots. And in doing so, I felt the desire to make this language my own again and to release it from the well-pitched, vigorous, and emphatic form in which I had always heard it sung. I wanted the Sicilian in my music to be grating, chewed up, intimate and soft.
